SUBSTANCE USE & ADDICTIVE DISORDERS

At The Behman, we realize the toll substance use and addictive disorders take on individuals and families. Our approach is grounded in compassion and in the belief that recovery is within reach given the correct treatment. We use a multimethod approach, involving therapy in group, individual and family settings. The main course of treatment is based on the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model, along with principles from the 12-step programme for recovery from addiction (Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous). Treatment services are offered by a multidisciplinary team of specialized psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, supervisors, and nurses who liaise continuously to adapt and modify protocols to suit the development of each case. At all stages, we provide support to our patients’ families to ensure a nurturing atmosphere and encourage recovery.

THE STAGES OF TREATMENT

Treatment for Substance Use and Addictive disorders takes place over 4 distinct, consecutive phases, which are adapted to produce the best possible outcomes for each individual case. We guarantee the utmost privacy and confidentiality throughout the treatment process and work hard to ensure that each and every one of our patients is equipped to make a strong and sustainable recovery long after treatment ends.

STAGE 1: THE DETOXIFICATION PHASE

During detoxification, patients tackle any physical symptoms associated with their addiction and may experience withdrawal from the substance used. We are always on hand to guide them through any difficulty.

STAGE 2: THE 28-DAY PROGRAMME

After detoxification, patients progress to the intensive rehabilitation stage, where they have the opportunity to attend individual counselling, group therapy, art therapy, yoga, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

STAGE 3: HALF-WAY PROGRAMME (EL DAR)

The third stage of treatment takes place in El Dar, a halfway house adjoining the Addiction Unit. Patients continue attending individual and group therapy sessions and learn how to prevent future relapse while progressively assuming normal-life responsibilities.

STAGE 4: FOLLOW UP

The follow-up stage is a contractual phase, where patients agree to join and attend an outpatient group twice a week. Follow-up periods can last for up to one year.
