Clinical observation programme

The Clinical Observation Program is an educational experience for those with interest in clinical practice in psychiatry. The Behman provides opportunities for psychiatrists, physicians, and medical students to train at the hospital without direct, active patient care responsibilities and under the supervision of a clinical care consultant.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree from an internationally recognized medical school or proof of enrollment in a medical school of the same criteria.
  • CV
  • Two references

Participants in the Observation Program will be able to:

 

  • Observe the delivery of mental health care in the different wards of the hospital.
  • They will be able to witness and learn from observation how psychiatrists interact with patients, noting how to take a history, perform mental state examination and pyschiatric diagnosis, recommend a treatment, write prescriptions and the process of documentation.
  • They will be also able to observe clinicians in our hospital as future role models for their careers in the future.

Participants in the Observation Program will be able to attend:

  • Lectures: Weekly lectures covering core topics in psychiatry, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, ethics, and clinical skills.
  • Journal Club: Regular meetings to discuss and critically analyze current research in psychiatry.
  • Weekly Case Presentations.

 

The length of the observation period may vary according to availability and extend from one to six months based on mutual agreement.

 

There are limited observation positions.

 

Participants will abide by hospital regulations, local laws and will respect patients’ confidentiality.

Fees:

 

For the academic year or 2024/2025 the full-time fees for the Clinical Observation Program is 5000 EGP / month. For part-time attendance the fees will be recalculated according to the number of days attended.
