FOR PATIENTS

admission procedures

At The Behman, we understand the difficulty inherent to admission to a psychiatric facility, and we aim to make the procedure as seamless as possible for both the patient and the family. The following are the main steps for admission:

Step 1: Preliminary assessment by a consultant psychiatrist

The patient is assessed by a consultant psychiatrist to check eligibility for voluntary or involuntary admission. This can be done at the following locations: the outpatient clinic, the hospital clinic, or a domiciliary visit.

Step 2: Completion of the necessary forms

We attempt to minimize paperwork as much as possible to streamline the admission procedure. The following are the required forms for different types of admission:

In case of Voluntary Admission:

  • Required forms include a voluntary admissions form, a patient information form and an accommodation request form and can either be downloaded here and filled out, signed, and uploaded here or submitted at the hospital. The patient signs the necessary papers. If the patient is below 18 years of age, a guardian or parent must submit the paperwork.

In case of Involuntary Admission:

▪    Required forms include an involuntary admissions form, a patient information form and an accommodation request form. These should be filled out at the hospital by a first degree relative. If there is a need for escorted medical services, please contact the hospital for details

Step 3: Accommodation selection

Patients or their relatives review the available accommodation options and select the appropriate room. It is possible to arrange a tour to see different room options if requested.

Step 4: Payment

Payment may be made either at the hospital or online.

Step 5: Full assessment & start of stay at The Behman

A registrar of psychiatry will complete the full assessment and the patient will be escorted to their designated room.

Note: For involuntary admissions cases, an independent government assessment from the Ministry of Health must take place in the first 72 hours to ensure the fulfilment of all legal admissions criteria.
